Community is Medicine is not a crisis line and provides a non-emergency service. Our volunteers, our team, or the platform itself may not always be available due to maintenance, technical issues, or any other reasons. If you are in a suicidal crisis and/or are in immediate danger, please call 911 or your local distress centre.

Service users will treat our volunteers, team members, and other users with respect and dignity. Insults, inappropriate or abusive language, harassment, racism, and hate speech will not be tolerated. We reserve the right to end conversations, ban you from the chat, and terminate your account at any time without notice. All conversations can be reviewed by a supervisor for quality assurance.


Our services are available to users up to 30 years old. If you are older, please refrain from connecting to our chat. You can access support by contacting 988 (crisis line for adults).

Our service is intended for users who want to access mental-health support. Please refrain from using our service for any other purposes. We reserve the right to ban you from our platform and terminate your account at any time if you are misusing our services and posing a threat to our staff , other users, or the integrity and safety of our chat. Users who engage in pranks, scams, hacking, reverse engineering, impersonations, sexual gratification, will see their account terminated immediately.

We have a zero-tolerance policy toward any form of abuse, exploitation, or sexual behaviour. In line with our safeguarding responsibilities, any concerns or incidents related to harmful conduct, including child sexual abuse or exploitation, will be taken seriously. We will promptly report such matters to the appropriate authorities, as required by law, to ensure the protection and well-being of all individuals.

Our service is open from 9am to 9pm every day, unless specified otherwise on our website or on our chat. We reserve the right to change the service availability at any time without notice.

Our services do not replace any mental health and health professional services. Community is Medicine does not offer counselling sessions or provide any medical or legal advice. All content and material that is provided on our website and platform should be used at your own discretion. Please consult your primary health care provider or a professional for any health concerns.

Regular users cannot and will not try to contact other regular users on our platform and ask for any personal information or share inappropriate content. Our volunteers and our team have a blue verified badge by their name to ensure safety across the platform. If you don’t see a blue badge, please refrain from contacting this user or do not reply if you are being contacted by them. Advise a volunteer or an admin immediately or leave the chat if you feel like your safety is compromised.

Although our volunteers are encouraged to respond within a reasonable amount of time, they are not required to reply right away to users or be available at any set time.

If a user doesn’t follow our rules and code of conduct and get banned or if their account is blocked or deleted because of it, you understand that we do not incur any liability.

By agreeing to the Terms and Conditions for Community is Medicine you permanently agree to release us from all suits claims and actions pertaining to your experiences with us.

Privacy

Our service is anonymous:

  1. We can only see the information that you share with us.

  2. We don’t know your identity, name, email, address, or phone number, unless you share it with us. Make sure to protect your own privacy online and use a VPN to hide your IP address.

  3. We don’t keep files on our service users.

Our service is confidential:

Everything that you share in a conversation with our volunteers or staff stays private, we will not repeat it to anyone else. We want to make sure that our platform remains a safe space.

Breach of confidentiality:

  1. If you provide identifying information and share with us that you are planning to hurt someone or you are planning to hurt yourself (ending your life), we have a duty to report this information to Emergency services to ensure your safety.

  2. If you share identifying information with us about a person living in Canada under the age of 19 who is experiencing physical, sexual or emotional abuse we have a duty to report this information to a local child protection service.

    Identifying information means full name, age, address, or school.

The messages you send on our chat can be stored up to 90 days. It remains on the platform and is not used or shared with anyone else.
if you create an account and log-in, your username, nickname, password, and your profile picture are stored on our servers. We reserve the right to delete inactive user’s account after 3 months without notice but it might be kept longer if such action has not be taken. If you want to erase your personal information, please
contact us.

Our services, chat, websites and all content from Community is Medicine is provided to you AS IS or AS AVAILABLE. We encourage users to verify all information found on any of our websites as errors and mistakes can happen. You understand that we cannot be liable for the misuse of the information or service we provide. We are also not responsible for the information, content, operation, and services provided by Third Party tools or any external links that may be available on our websites or shared by our users. We cannot be liable for anything related to those links, please contact the appropriate service or website for complaints or legal concerns.
