Guidelines
Free for participants : your event is free to attend unless it’s a designated fundraising opportunity.
Direct community benefit: your event should either provide learning opportunities for service users or empower your community.
Health & mental health, and community focus: events should be centered around health or mental wellness.
Expert-led: speakers must be qualified professionals with the necessary accreditation in their field.
Steps to prepare for your event
-
Your event theme should align with our mission: providing support and strengthening communities.
Consider these key questions:
What is the goal of your online event?
What meaningful conversation will you lead?
What valuable insights will your audience gain?
By choosing a theme that inspires and empowers, you’ll create an event that truly makes an impact.
-
Will you be leading the talk, or are you hosting the discussion?
Consider these key questions:
Who will be speaking at your event?
How many speakers do you want?
If this is your first event, we recommend keeping it simple. A maximum of three speakers makes scheduling and event management much smoother.
To ensure credibility and impact, your speakers should be qualified professionals with the necessary expertise in their field.
-
Will your event be a single session, a multi-session event in one day, or spread across multiple days?
Here are some options to consider:
One session (e.g., 1-hour webinar)
Multiple sessions in a day
10:00–11:00 AM: Talk 1
2:00–3:00 PM: Talk 2
Multi-day event
Monday, 10:00–11:00 AM: Talk 1
Tuesday, 2:00–3:00 PM: Talk 2
Wednesday, 8:00–9:00 AM: Talk 3
Choosing the right schedule helps keep your audience engaged and ensures a smooth experience.
-
What format best suits your event? Will it be:
A webinar – A focused presentation or lecture
A panel discussion – Multiple experts sharing insights on a topic
A conversation – An open discussion with insights and experiences
A course – Structured learning with lessons and takeaways
A workshop – Hands-on learning with audience participation
A Q&A session – A speaker answers audience questions live
A roundtable – A collaborative discussion with all participants involved
A keynote speech – A single speaker delivering a powerful talk
A support group – A safe space for sharing experiences and guidance
A networking event – Connecting like-minded individuals for community-building
Choosing the right style will shape how your audience engages with your content.
-
Who is your online event for? Defining your audience will help shape your content and outreach.
Consider these questions:
Is your event private? Will it be exclusive to your clients or organization?
Will it be public? Do you want to invite people from your local or broader community?
Is it a global event? Will it be accessible to everyone?
Who will benefit from your event? Is it designed for professionals, young people, or a specific group within your community?
Understanding your audience ensures your event is engaging, relevant, and impactful.
-
At Community is Medicine, we can support you with advertising and funding, but building strong local partnerships will make your event even more impactful!
Think about potential partners who could contribute by participating, promoting, or funding your event. These could include:
Colleagues or other professionals in your field
Nonprofits and community organizations aligned with your mission
Local businesses (cafés, community centers, bookstores, etc.)
Health organizations that can offer expertise and resources
Banks or corporate sponsors that support community initiatives
Associations and sports clubs to help expand your reach
Collaboration strengthens communities—who could you invite to be part of your event?
